AYF Akure Patroness And FUTA Scholar, Professor Funmi Olabode-Sawe, Inducted Into the Nigerian Academy Of Letters
The Patroness of the Diocesan Council of Akure Anglican Youth Fellowship and A Professor of Applied Linguistics and Terminology, at the Institute of Technology-enhanced Learning and Digital Humanities (INTEDH), Federal University of Technology Akure FUTA, Funmi Olabode-Sawe has been inducted into the Nigerian Academy of Letters, NAL.
The induction ceremony was held at the University of Lagos on August 9, 2024, during the Twenty-Sixth Convocation and Investiture of New Fellows and Conferment of Awards, including the award of Excellence in Humanistic Practice.
The Nigerian Academy of Letters is a national academy and apex body of arts and literature in Nigeria. It is an autonomous, scholarly and non-political state institution for advancing scholarship and public interest in the humanities at the highest level in Nigeria.
Fúnmilayọ Ọmọlabakẹ Olúbọ̀dé-Sàwẹ̀ earned her Bachelor of Arts in the University of Ilorin in 1987 and a Master of Arts in English Language from the same university in 1990.
She joined the services of The Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1990 as Assistant Lecturer, and was promoted to Lecturer II in 1998 and Lecturer I in 2001. She earned a PhD in Linguistics from Adekunle Ajasin University. Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria in 2010.
She was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2011.
She spent a sabbatical year in Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin between December 2012 and December 2013.
She was promoted to the position of Reader in 2014 and became a Professor in 2017. She has over 42 publications comprising book chapters, articles in referred journals and conference proceedings.
She is a Professor of Terminology Development at the General Studies Unit of the Institute of Technology-Enhanced Learning and Digital Humanities (INTEDH) Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria where she teaches English for Academic Purposes.
She has over 32 years’ experience as a practitioner and researcher in different areas of Applied Linguistics such as Terminology Development/ Translation, Computer-Mediated Communication and Blended Learning. She has presented her e-learning research at several fora in Africa, and has received formal instruction in Online Facilitation organised by e/merge Africa at the University of Cape Town. She has been Head of the Department of the General Studies Unit, a pioneer of Blended Learning research in FUTA, was one of the early adopters of e-learning in the University and has been practising in the area since 2008.
