God Select Us For His Special Plans, Assignments And Purposes- Rev’d C. A Okelola

This was made known during his exposition at the ongoing AYF Akure Diocesan leadership retreat at Igbara-Oke in Ondo, He said God selected us for his special plans, assignments and purposes.

The Revd. C. Akinwande Okelola who is from St. John’s Anglican Church, Ilere, Akure in the Diocese of Akure, title his message as A Call To Service

Below is the full message:

“It will not be so among you,

but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant,

and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave,

just as the Son of Man came not to be served

but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many.” Matt. 20: 26 – 28

Our theme is all about what service is, which is to “serve and not be served”. The call of God is a call to service. Every child of God is called to serve – which is “service”. Why? Each and every one of us possesses certain gifts and talents given to us by God that can be used to further His Kingdom.

Our call to service is not an optional aspect of our faith, but an integral part of our identity as followers of Christ. Service is what makes us stand out as God’s children. The truth is, God select us for His special plans, assignments and purposes.

What is service?

  • Service is a response to the call of God for an assignment.
  • Service is about using the best of what God has given to us being obedient to him and serving Him.
  • Service is an aspect of learning and applying our spiritual gifts.
  • Service means we are committed to serving others as Jesus called and exemplified.

Service is not just a task but a noble and transformative calling that echoes through the teachings of Christ. Jesus our master is a good example of humble service. He came to serve to exemplify service.

Making yourself ready for service involves:

  • Have an open heart
  • Possess a willing spirit
  • Be available
  • Use what you have
  • Have a sincere desire to further God’s Kingdom

Answering the call to service, we discover a path of love, humility and purpose that transforms not only our lives but the lives of those we touch.

The Spiritual benefits of Service

  • It achieves God’s purpose for our life.
  • It produces spiritual growth
  • It nurtures and strengthens us as a means of grace.
  • It is the pathway to greatness
  • It is the pathway to honour (Joh. 12:26).
  • Service builds and prepare us to be stronger in character and fulfilling our responsibility for His Kingdom.
  • The more we serve, the more Christ like we become

As we conclude our reflections on the call to service, let us carry with us a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to live out the love that calls us to serve. May our actions be a testament to the transformative power of selfless service, creating ripples of positive change in our communities and the world. Let us answer the call with open hearts, knowing that in service, we find not only a calling but a profound and meaningful way to live out our faith and make a difference. Amen.
